AKAKIA provides electronic books in .mobi format for eBook readers such as the Amazon Kindle, in a .pdf format for PCs and Pads such as the iPad or Android tablets and of course, in an .epub format for the most of ebook readers, such as Sony Reader, Kobo, Binatone, BeBook, Nook and Displex.
Accessing and reading electronic books by AKAKIA is possible on any computer, desktop, notebook or netbook, provided that the required applications are properly installed and running. Three of the most popular applications are the Adobe Digital Editions (www.adobe.com/uk/products/digital-editions.html) for .epub files, the Amazon Kindle for PC (www.amazon.co.uk/gp/kindle/pc) and the Amazon Kindle for Mac (www.amazon.co.uk/gp/kindle/mac) for .mobi files as well as the Adobe Acrobat Reader (https://get.adobe.com/uk/reader) for .pdf files. Another interesting application for .epub files is the ReadPoint reader of the Greek company ReadPoint (www.readpoint.com/applications). The electronic files published by AKAKIA have been successfully tested on the world’s most popular eBook readers. AKAKIA strongly recommends the Amazon Kindle, probably the most popular eBook reader, which seamlessly supports its own .mobi files and has no problem reading Greek characters. In addition, most of eBook readers support the .epub files in which AKAKIA embeds the Greek Fonts. Amazon has created a free application for iPhones or Smart Phones with Android OS, which can be found on the websites of (www.amazon.co.uk/gp/kindle/pc), Apple, or Android Market, respectively. By installing the Amazon Kindle application on a Smart Phone, a customer may purchase and download electronic books directly from Amazon. This application seamlessly supports all .mobi files of eBooks issued by AKAKIA, including seamless reproduction of Greek characters. Most Smart Phones support .epub and .pdf files as well. AKAKIA Publications does not sell electronic books with DRM lock enable through its website, because AKAKIA does not in any way endorse the complexity, the required installation or purchase of computer programs by the user and generally, any further associated problems causing dissatisfaction by the user. Users should also be aware that the Adobe Digital Editions application for reading .epub files, has an important limitation. The application does not properly support Greek .epub files that have no pre-installed Greek fonts. For example, in Unicode files, accented Greek characters are not supported. This is a problem that surely needs be resolved, because most of the available Greek .epub files, at least those that are available free of charge, do not include fonts. AKAKIA embeds fonts into the .epub files in order to avoid any possible problem! Should there be any problem with accessing and reading files prepared by AKAKIA Publications or any incompatibility of such files on an eBook reader, we would be very grateful if you could kindly email us accordingly.
At AKAKIA, the publication of electronic books includes only two steps:
1. Filling out and sending the Publishing Application form along with your file, and
2. Paying the basic amount of £300 and/or the amounts of optional additional services, if applicable.
At AKAKIA, the printed publication is considered as an added service to the electronic edition. It also requires only two steps:
1. Filling out and sending the Publishing Application form along with your file, and
2. Paying the basic amount of £300 plus the amount of £200 for the printed publication, and/or the amounts of optional additional services, if applicable.
The amount of £300 includes the issuing of a unique ISBN by Nielsen ISBN UK, the set-up for the electronic edition under the professional specifications of a published electronic book, the creation of appropriate electronic files and the distribution worldwide.
The amount of £200 includes the distribution and sale of the Printed Publication of the book from Amazon and AKAKIA website, printing and sending 6 copies to the National British Library in compliance with the Law and the printing of a copy for AKAKIA archiving purposes.
There are additional optional services, which carry additional charges should you choose to take benefit of them. If upon completing the Publishing Application form, you also select copyright protection by CopyrightHouse.co.uk, an extra £100 is added; if you select the Cover Creation by AKAKIA option, you should add an additional charge of £100. If you wish to send us your own cover, it has to be created by a graphic designer in Photoshop (PSD), format 300 DPI. It must be 0.32cm larger than the desired in each side (right side at the front cover, left side at the back cover, up and down at the front cover, the back cover and the spine), for example 14.32cm x 21.64cm for a printed book which is going to be published in 14cm x 21cm. Αll elements in front and back cover must be aligned with the printable area (for example the 14cm x 21cm area). The spine will be created by you as well, after the setup is finished and you will be informed about the final number of pages, since its width must be the number of pages multiplied by 0.00572008cm. Furthermore, at the back cover, you must leave a space 5.93cm (height) x 4.06cm (width) where the barcode of the book is going to be placed. All elements (text, images) must be placed into separate layers. Finally, you must own the copyrights of every image you may use and you have to send us the fonts you may have used as well. Any file that does not meet these specifications, will not be accepted and you will be charged for the creation of the cover. If the cover follows these specifications but AKAKIA Publications believes that it's not professional or hasn't any commercial value, the publisher reserves the right to create another one, without any further charges. If the book contains more than 500.000 characters (including spaces) or / and 20 images, photos, tables or diagrams in total, the author must contact AKAKIA Publications at email@example.com before sending the application, to get a special offer. Otherwise, the simple text, up to 500.000 characters will not be charged more and there are 4 charging categories: 1. Text and B&W Images / Photos [+£60.00], 2. Text and B&W Images / Tables / Diagrams [+120.00], 3. Text and Colour Images / Photos [+£180.00] and 4. Text and Colour Images / Tables / Diagrams [+360.00]. Furthermore, it has been explicitly stated in publishing application that if the book contains more than 500 footnotes / endnotes, you must contact AKAKIA Publications at firstname.lastname@example.org before sending the application, to get a special offer. Otherwise, the first 50 footnotes / endontes will not be charged and there are some specific charging categories: 51 - 100 [+£15], 101 - 150 [+£30], 151 - 200 [+£45], 201 - 250 [+£60], 251 - 300 [+£75], 301 - 350 [+£90], 351 - 400 [+£105], 401 - 450 [+£120] and 451 - 500 [+£135].
The Author may order as many copies as they want for themselves at a very low cost, by sending an email to AKAKIA.
No. I order to issue the same book in both electronic and printed form, you only have to fill in the online Publishing Application once, selecting "Online and Printed Publication" and paying the basic sum of £300 plus the sum of £200 for the printed publication, and the charges for any optional additional services. While requiring a different ISBN, the electronic and the printed edition do not require different set-up, so setup is done only once. Thus, AKAKIA issues the second ISBN free of charge and proceeds with the next steps for both editions.
The cost for a book divided in two volumes or issued in a second language, is double. This is because a second volume is considered a different book, let alone a book in a different language. Thus, each book receives its own ISBN and the set of volumes receive an additional second joint ISBN called SET ISBN, so that when sold together (as in an offer) the joint ISBN and not the volume-specific ISBN is automatically selected. Thus, for each additional volume or any translation of a book, a separate set-up is required, and so a separate Publishing Application form should be completed on line followed by a separate deposit of any required amount.
AKAKIA can undertake the translation from English into Greek and vice versa, always following a written agreement via email to the author regarding the cost of translation. An author interested in translating their work, must inform AKAKIA via email accordingly.
If while completing the Publishing Application form you select the "Cover Creation by AKAKIA" option for your book, then all you have to do is upload the file with your text in .txt, .doc, .docx, or .rtf format. But if you already have a book cover saved in a .jpg or .png format, then you should upload both text and image files together in a compressed file format .zip.
With respect to both Electronic and Printed Books, once AKAKIA receives the electronic files and the required payment it will need 30 to 40 working days to complete the set-up procedures, to issue the ISBN, register the title with the National Library of England and the creation of the appropriate files for sale.
Of course you can! Once AKAKIA prepares appropriate files for the electronic edition of the book, your book will automatically and immediately become available for sale on the online store and www.akakia.net, www.akakia.co.uk and www.akakia.gr.

AKAKIA will deposit 70% of only the net profit from the sale of electronic and printed books in British Pounds. In other words, the commission of the relevant service providers (Paypal, Bank Account etc) and / or the respective online retailer that manages the sale and the production online (ie. Amazon) will be deducted, including any withdrawal charges from AKAKIA’s Paypal Account to a bank or other Account if the author does not have own Paypal Account. AKAKIA recommends to all authors intending to submit their works for publication to AKAKIA, to create a Paypal Account, so that AKAKIA can easily deposit their profits. This will avoid the process of issuing cheques or other forms of money transfer, that are time consuming and burden the author with additional costs.
