E-BOOKS SUPPORT
ELECTRONIC BOOKS
(eBooks)
AKAKIA Publications makes its electronic titles available in a
compressed file .zip format, which makes the title available for
download in three different formats: in .mobi format for eBook
readers such as the Amazon Kindle, in a .pdf format for PCs and Pads
such as the iPad or Android tablets or in case the buyer wants to
have a hard copy of the title printed, and ofcourse, in a .epub
format for the most of ebook readers, such as Sony Reader, Kobo,
Binatone, BeBook, Nook and Displex.
PC & MAC COMPUTERS
Accessing and reading electronic books by AKAKIA is possible in any
computer, desktop, notebook or netbook, provided the required
applications are properly installed and running. Two of the most
popular applications today are the Amazon Kindle for PC (www.amazon.co.uk/gp/kindle/pc),
the Amazon Kindle for Mac (www.amazon.co.uk/gp/kindle/mac)
for .mobi files as well as the Adobe Acrobat Reader (http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader)
for .pdf files.
eBOOK READERS
The electronic files published by AKAKIA have been successfully
tested on the world’s most popular eBook readers. AKAKIA strongly
recommends the Amazon Kindle, probably the most popular eBook
reader, which seamlessly supports its own .mobi files and has no
problem reading Greek characters. In addition, the most of eBook readers
support the .epub files in which AKAKIA embeds the Greek Fonts, and can certainly read .pdf
files provided by AKAKIA Publications.
SMART PHONES & iPHONES
Amazon has created a free application for iPhones or Smart Phones
with Android OS, which can be found on the websites of
(www.amazon.co.uk/gp/readers),
Apple, or Android Market, respectively. By installing the Amazon
Kindle application on a Smart Phone, a customer may purchase and
download electronic books directly from Amazon. This application
seamlessly supports all .mobi files of eBooks issued by AKAKIA,
including seamless reproduction of Greek characters.
LIMITATIONS AND PROBLEMS
AKAKIA Publications does not issue electronic books with DRM lock enable, because
AKAKIA does not in any way endorse file downloads on one electronic
device only nor does it approve of the complexity, the required
installation or purchase of computer programs by the user and more
generally, of further associated problems causing eventual
dissatisfaction of the user. Users should also be aware that the
Adobe Digital Editions application for reading .epub files, has an
important limitation. The application does not properly support
Greek .epub files that have no pre-installed Greek fonts. For
example, in Unicode files, accented Greek characters are not
supported. This is a problem that surely needs be resolved, because
most of the available Greek .epub files, at least those that are
available free of charge, do not include fonts. AKAKIA embeds fonts
into the .epub files in order to avoid any possible problem!
Should there be any problem with accessing and reading files
prepared by AKAKIA Publications or any incompatibility of such files
on an eBook reader, we would be very grateful if you could kindly
email us accordingly.
